Chris Richards, one of the bright, young stars on the Bayern Munich campus these days, was called up to the U23 squad from the Bayern U19s yesterday. Richards, who is on loan from FC Dallas, has asserted himself rather nicely in Bavaria earning excellent reviews from the club hierarchy.
When Lars Lukas Mai was called to the first team by Niko Kovač for its 2-1 win over Werder Bremen, Richards suited up for the U23 in their match against FV Illertissen. Bayern won the U23 contest, 2-0.

After a scoreless first half, Meritan Shabani and Wooyeong Jeong each scored to propel the squad to a victory. Christian Früchtl supplied the clean sheet in net. Bayern U23 coach Holger Seitz was ecstatic with the effort:
It was an outstanding regional league game and a highly deserved victory for us. We were very good defensively and have not allowed anything except for one situation. The boys have been constantly trying to play forward. The two goals were great.
Interestingly Seitz set his team up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, which is becoming all the rage in Bavaria as well.
Regardless, Richards was not called into action, but this is certainly a good sign for the prospect. The Alabama native, who developed at Texans SC before moving to FC Dallas, is proving his mettle each and every day in Munich.
Richards joined the FC Dallas Youth Academy in 2017 before moving to Munich last summer, where he has lived on the Bayern campus.
