More bad news for Bayern Munich. Less than thirty minutes into a high-stakes clash with RB Leipzig, winger Serge Gnabry pulled up injured and had to be substituted. Franck Ribery, who was rested in the last Bundesliga game against Hannover, came on in his stead.
Gnabry was having a stop-start game on the night, but he did have the occasional bright moment on the right side of the pitch. The muscle injury occurred as he attempted a blazing run into the Leipzig box, dribbling past two players in the process. The temporary burst of speed seemed to be too much for the youngster’s body to handle, and as soon as play stopped, Gnabry went down and asked for assistance.
The injury is a big blow to Bayern, especially considering how Gnabry has performed recently. Since the player managed to walk off the pitch without assistance, we can hope that the injury is not too serious. A bad hamstring or groin tear at this stage could leave Gnabry out of the squad for at least the entire winter break, if not longer.
