After an exceptionally long time warming the bench, Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels finally found a spot in the starting XI on Saturday against Hannover 96. The last time Hummels completed 90 minutes on the pitch was a month ago — against AEK Athens on November 8th.
Speculation about the future of Hummels have been running high for a while now. Hasan Salihamidžić, however, completely ruled out a possible winter transfer while talking to Sky TV. He said (via AZ),
He’s currently a German national player, so there is no thought at all [of a transfer].
After the match against AFC Ajax, Bild reported that the defender is dissatisfied about his current situation at the club. While talking about it, Jerome Boateng commented that for him, it doesn't really matter who gets a chance to play:
I think that Niki and I work well together on the pitch. But in general it doesn’t matter whether Mats or I or Niki play. All three of us can play well with one another.
Niko Kovač had previously commented on player's complaining or feeling discontented about less playing time:
It’s true that if you play at Bayern Munich, you have to anticipate that you’ll also sit on the bench.
The centre-back is celebrating his 30th birthday today. Happy birthday, Mats!
