The posturing for Ajax starlet Frenkie de Jong continues to twist and turn as many of the world’s power clubs take aim at landing the 21-year old midfielder.
Just last week, reports out of the Netherlands indicated that Paris Saint-Germain was closing in on an agreement for the Dutch international, but nothing concrete has emerged since the initial report. In fact, the situation has only become cloudier, especially after the the player’s father, John de Jong told Voetbal Premium (via SportBild) that his son should choose FC Barcelona.
He is a very intelligent boy and will make his decision in the spring. The chance that he transfers is 95 percent and Barca would be the best decision.
Despite Mr. de Jong’s apparent affinity for Barca, clubs like Bayern Munich, PSG, and others will undoubtedly continue to pursue the Ajax man until a formal agreement is announced between the Dutch club and whichever world power is lucky enough to secure the player.
For Bayern, sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić is still monitoring de Jong’s situation closely.
I’ve known him for a long time. He has developed very well. He plays in the national team; he plays well at Ajax.
Since the Bavarians take on Ajax tomorrow in the Champions League, today would be an excellent time for the club to have preliminary discussions on acquiring de Jong and/or his teammate, center back Matthijs de Ligt.
