Bayern among teams listed as suitors for Timo Werner (Sport Witness)

Perhaps one of Bayern Munich’s wingers of the future is currently playing striker for RB Leipzig?

In last week’s issue of SportBild, there was a big article on Timo Werner and the striker’s future at RB Leipzig. His contract runs out in June 2020, and therefore pressure is building and will continue to build unless a renewal is agreed. It was explained as a ‘poker’ situation. When they were listing interested clubs, SportBild presented Manchester United and claimed the Red Devils have been watching Werner intensively. Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich also got a mention, but it was pretty new for United.

We ignored it, waiting to see if they mentioned it again. Well, sure enough, in this week’s magazine, SportBild list Manchester United as one of the clubs interested in the player. It’s explained RB Leipzig have been trying to get an extension signed for over a year and have offered to double the player’s salary to more than €6m a year. Werner is hesitating, and waiting for ‘concrete requests from top clubs’.

I’m probably a bigger proponent of Werner than most, but it will be interesting to see if Die Roten Bullen pulls the trigger on a transfer next summer in hopes of cashing in on an asset with some solid market value.

Schweinsteiger will play another season in Chicago (@ChicagoFire)

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced that the team has re-signed Bastian Schweinsteiger as a Designated Player for the 2019 MLS season. The Bayern legend is happy to be taking the pitch for another season:

Let’s raise a trophy. I believe in this Club and I believe that we can be champions. This American journey has been very special for me and my family. I love being a part of the Chicago Fire and we appreciate how the city has embraced us with open arms. To the Fire fans, from my family to yours, I wish you a happy and safe holiday season and I will see you in Chicago next year.

Fire President and General Manager Nelson Rodríguez was happy to have the star back in the fold for another season.

In a lot of ways Basti has come to embody our Club, the prototypical Fire player and the spirit of Chicago: industrious, intelligent, enthusiastic, talented and world-class. His return demonstrates our continuing effort to build a championship program, both on and off the field.

Bayern chasing 18-year old Chelsea starlet (The Sun)

Callum Hudson-Odoi is an 18-year old winger with Chelsea, who Bayern might be looking at per the report below.

BAYERN MUNICH are leading the chase for young Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi. The German giants are keen to push through a move for the 18-year-old in January. Hudson-Odoi’s current contract with the Blues has 18 months to run but he is stalling over a new deal because of his lack of first-team opportunities.
