FC BAYERN SURVEY RESULTS 19.10.18 - 31.10.18

PRESS CONFERENCE + MATCHES VS MAINZ, WOLFSBURG, AEK ATHENS & SV RÖDINGHAUSEN

After a four-match winless streak, Bayern have rattled off four straight wins against Wolfsburg and Mainz in the Bundesliga, AEK Athens in the Champions League and SV Rödinghausen in the DFB Pokal.

How is the mood around the team changing? Which players are improving and which are declining? How do fans feel about Kovac, Uli, Rummenigge, etc?

Manager rating: Niko Kovac

Generally speaking, things had been improving for Kovac. Kovac’s rating in the last three matches has been 6.4/10, 6.3/10, and 6.7/10. This represents some improvement for Kovac - over previous weeks he’d averaged around 5.9, dropping as low as 5.0/10 after the loss to Gladbach. However, following a lackluster win vs Rödinghausen, his rating dropped to 3.9/10. By my count, this represents Kovac’s lowest-rated performance thus far.

Player Ratings: Bayern vs. Wolfsburg

Overall, your Man of the Match vs Wolfsburg was Robert Lewandowski, who scored a 9.4/10 overall. In looking at previous surveys, I believe that’s the highest any Bayern player has ‘scored’ this season.

Coming in second and third place were James Rodriguez and Thiago Alcantara with scores of 8.3/10 and 7.3/10, respectively.

Your Flop of the Match was Arjen Robben, with an average score of 3.4/10.

Outside of these four players, everyone else graded out between 5.4/10 and 6.7/10.

Overall, the team’s average grade for the match was 6.4/10.

Player Ratings: Bayern vs. AEK Athens

Turning to the Champions League, Bayern defeated AEK Athens by a score of 2-0.

For the second time in as many matches, your Man of the Match was again Robert Lewandowski, this time with a score of 7.6/10. On the other hand, this marked the second straight match where Robben was the Flop of the Match, with a score of 4.3/10.

Your second and third-highest graded players were Rafinha and Süle, who both finished at 7.4/10, and Gnabry close behind with a 7.2/10.

Overall, the team’s average grade for the match was 6.5/10.

Player Ratings: Bayern vs. Mainz

A 2-1 win vs Mainz saw Bayern seemingly headed the right direction once again. Most of you felt this match was an improvement on previous weeks and graded players perhaps a bit more generously or favorably than in recent weeks!

Your Man of the Match: Thiago Alcantara, 8.9/10

Your Flop of the Match: Franck Ribery, 4.1/10. Granted, Ribery only played 30 minutes. Of the starting XI, the lowest score would’ve been Gnabry with a 6.4/10.

Second and third-highest ranked players were Jerome Boateng (8.0/10) and Niklas Süle, 7.9/10.

Overall, the team’s average grade for the match was 7.1/10.

Player Ratings: Bayern vs. SV Rödinghausen

Bayern defeated SV Rödinghausen by a score of 2-1 in the DFB Pokal. However, I think it’s fair to say that most felt this was a fairly lackluster performance and this was reflected in your grading.

Your Man of the Match was Renato Sanches, with a score of 8.0/10. In the time since I’ve began polling, that’s easily Sanches’ highest rating.

Second and third behind Sanches found Thiago Alcantara and Niklas Süle with scores of 6.8 and 6.5/10, respectively. Unfortunately, Thiago suffered what looked to be a fairly serious ankle injury and looks to be out for the next couple of months.

Coming in last as your Flop of the Match is Franck Ribery. Ribery scored a 1.8/10, which represents his worst performance of the season and the worst by any Bayern player by a considerable margin - the previous team "record low" being a 4/10, also logged by Ribery.

Overall, the team’s average grade for the match was 5.5/10

Overall Team Performances: Your Grades

You gave the team the following scores in regards to overall performance.

  • Bayern vs Wolfsburg: 7.1/10
  • Bayern vs AEK: 6.4/10
  • Bayern vs Mainz: 6.6/10
  • Bayern vs SV Rödinghausen: 3.7/10

Overall "Panic Level"

In recent weeks the fans’ "panic level" has been a bit of a roller coaster. I think that’s to be expected.

Following the victory vs Wolfsburg, you said your overall panic/worry level was a 5.6/10.

Following the victory vs AEK, you said it was a 4.8/10.

After a third consecutive victory - this time vs Mainz - your panic level had dropped all the way to 3.7/10.

Previously, the overall panic level reached as high as 6.3/10 after the loss to Gladbach.

After a brief decline, that’s jumped back up all the way to 6.9/10, which represents a new ‘peak’.

Your Confidence in Club Leadership/Feelings about the Future:

Over the past few weeks you’ve been asked how confident you’re feeling in the direction the club’s heading as well as your trust in the direction/leadership of Uli Hoeness, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Hasan Salihamidzic, and Niko Kovac. Here’s how you responded.

After winning vs Wolfsburg, you responded that your overall confidence in Niko Kovac was right at 6.0/10, and you felt that Kovac’s odds of being sacked stood at 3.8/10.

After winning vs AEK, 95% of you felt that your confidence in Kovac hadn’t got any *worse*, while around 50% of you said your confidence was improving. These numbers were virtually identical after the Mainz match.

Unfortunately, this was not the case following our most recent match. 70% of you reported that your confidence in Kovac was now decreasing.

Your overall ‘mood’ regarding the team has been up and down. Most felt their ‘mood’ or ‘feeling’ had improved following wins vs Wolfsburg, Mainz, and AEK, but after our match vs Rödinghausen, most of you felt your mood had declined further, with 73% reporting that you were feeling worse and/or less confident.

Regarding Kovac’s job security, you said that Kovac’s odds of being sacked stood at 4.2/10.

What's Next?

As it stands, we're a little under a third of the way through the season. Seeing as it's November 1, I thought this would be a good opportunity to take inventory of things as they stand and look back and do a bit of evaluation on the season so far. I'm planning on posting another 'season assessment' type survey over winter break and will also plan on putting up a 'reactions' survey after the AEK and Dortmund matches. Thanks as always!
