Mats Hummels to become a Red Devil? (Plymouth Herald)
With so many Bayern Munich players rumored to be disgruntled it is tough to discern what is real vs. what is not. If center back Mats Hummels is one of those angry Bavarians, however, there are plenty of teams that would love to take him off Niko Kovač’s hands, including Manchester United.
Manchester United could turn to Germany as they look for an answer to their defensive issues with the Red Devils said to be keen on signing Bayern Munich’s Mats Hummels. The German international has not had much game time since Niko Kovač took over at the Allianz Arena, playing only three of their six Bundesliga games so far this campaign.
United’s defensive issues are well documented and manager Jose Mourinho was not granted the center half he craved in the summer transfer window, with chief executive Edward Woodward stating the ones on Mourinho’s shortlist were no better than the ones already at Old Trafford. They included Jerome Boateng, but it seems the Red Devils are now looking at Boateng’s Bayern teammate, according to The Sun, with Bayern demanding around £57 million for the 29-year-old’s services.
Arturo Vidal is unhappy at FC Barcelona (Barca Blaugranes)
As we are finding out daily these days on this site, no world class caliber player wants to sit on the bench. The same could be said anywhere really, including at FC Barcelona where Arturo Vidal is always a social media post away from igniting a blaze.
Our friends over at Barca Blaugranes extracted some info from a FourFourTwo piece where Vidal expressed his displeasure:
I am not happy but if I have a problem with the coach I will say it to his face. How am I going to be happy if I don’t play, and me of all people. I am someone that has always fought, that has been in the best teams in the world, that has won everything and who wants to continue winning at Barcelona. I am fine physically and happy. In the past few games I have been a little irritated but that’s how it is, we will keep battling, there are a lot of important games ahead and we will see.
When I have a problem or I am angry then I go straight to the coach and I speak to him. You can have various reasons for doing these things. It [the Judas message] was nothing to do with anything sporting and I took it down to stop people speculating. There are personal things, jokes which you can put on social media and people take the wrong way.
Leon Bailey joins the Jamaican national team (German Football Daily)
Ending speculation, Leon Bailey will play with Jamaica.
Leon Bailey will join the Jamaican national team.

There were rumours of a dispute between his father/consultant and the Jamaican federation, which is why the English national team was also an issue.
It was previously speculated that Bailey may try to play for England or gain citizenship in Germany, so he could play for Die Mannschaft. While Bailey’s grandparents were from England, they were not born there, limiting his ability to play for the Three Lions.

They may be a team in a rut, but they are still people, too. Besides, who doesn’t like lederhosen and beer?

A call for fan groups (BavarianFootballWorks.com)
We are trying something here at the Daily Schmankerl and need YOUR help. If you read my man Tommy Adams’ piece about his experience with the FCBNYC Fan Club (if you haven’t, SHAME ON YOU!), you could see how great the event was. So we want to highlight some of these wonderful groups that are out there globally and this is what we need from you:
- Name of the group
- Location
- Year founded
- Leadership (if you have people are kind of running the show)
- Meeting place
- Social media handles
- Pictures
I’d LOVE to be able to feature a different fan group every week this season. Maybe we can do it, maybe not...but only YOU can help decide the fate of this idea. Send your info to: barrelsportsblog@gmail.com
