When it was first reported by Calciomercato that Bayern Munich were preparing a bid for AS Roma winger Cengiz Ünder, few took it seriously. I mean, Bayern paying over 60m euros for a 21 year old winger? It didn’t sound plausible. However, speaking to Sky [via Fussballtrasfers], Under’s agent confirmed that there had been contact with the Bavarian giants.
Since I don’t watch AS Roma regularly, I’m going off what I see on trasnfermarkt. Ünder seems like a winger who plays primarily on the right side of the pitch. He is left-footed as well, meaning he’s an inverted winger — sort of like Arjen Robben, which suits Bayern’s profile. He’s also been targeted by the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.
The Turk has 2 goals and 4 assists in just 599 minutes so far this season, so it’s easy to see why the so many big clubs might want him. It’s especially true for Bayern Munich, as everyone agrees that it’s about time that we move on from the duo of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. Alphonso Davies will join the club in January, giving Bayern three young wingers to work with. Perhaps Cengiz Ünder will be the fourth?
A forward attacking line of Coman (22), Gnabry (23), Ünder (21), and Davies (18) sounds like music to my ears.
