Bayern Munich’s dynamic duo each have 27 career DFB-Pokal goals and are one goal away from creeping into the top 10.
Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller have each netted 27 goals in the DFB Cup during their careers, putting them level with their former boss Jupp Heynckes in 12th place in the all-time top goalscorers in the competition. Jann-Fiete Arp talks decision to stay with Der Dino (Münchner Merkur)
Hamburger SV starlet Jann-Fiete Arp was widely assumed to be heading to Bavaria almost all spring and summer before pulling a 180 and deciding to stay with HSV. The 18-year old talked over that difficult decision and why he made the call to stay:
The next German top talent almost landed on Säbener Straße. In the end, however, Arp decided for the Hamburger SV and extended his contract until 2020. But why did he turn down the attractive offer of the German record champion? In the interview with the Sport Bild he revealed: His sense of duty to HSV has moved him to do so. So Arp says: “In the end, I decided on my own that I stay. I did not give anything here for eight years to go down. I would never have forgiven myself. “
Is this a change from Munich to the table? Not at all, because Arp does not want to make false promises, as he emphasizes. He was very happy to be with HSV, but a change in the future, he could not exclude 100 percent. Even after the contract extension persisted rumors in the media that the change to FCB was only postponed and not repealed.
Munich will certainly stay tuned to the HSV jewel, but initially Arp has only the direct re-emergence with Hamburg in his sights. “Ascension is the most important thing for me,” he emphasizes. That’s why he finally extended.

Bayern scouting Everton winger (Daily Mirror)
Henry Onyekuru is an Everton player currently on loan with Galatasaray that has caught the attention of some of Europe’s heavyweights, including the “always on the hunt for wingers” club from Bavaria:
Henry Onyekuru’s sparkling form has left new Everton director of football Marcel Brands with a headache. The Nigerian international – refused a work-permit to play for the Toffees – has been tearing it up on loan at Galatasaray.
The 21-year-old’s form has attracted the attention of Europe’s finest, including Paris St Germain who beat Everton to his signature last year. Bayern Munich and Marseille have also scouted the winger whose future should he return to Merseyside is still shrouded in doubt. The versatile forward, who scored 10 goals in 28 games for Anderlecht last term, has impressed playing out wide for the Turkish side this term. He has managed two goals in 10 games thus far.
Below is a highlight video on Onyekuru:
A call for fan groups (BavarianFootballWorks.com)
We are trying something here at the Daily Schmankerl and need YOUR help. If you read my man Tommy Adams’ piece about his experience with the FCBNYC Fan Club (if you haven’t, SHAME ON YOU!), you could see how great the event was. So we want to highlight some of these wonderful groups that are out there globally and this is what we need from you:
- Name of the group
- Location
- Year founded
- Leadership (if you have people are kind of running the show)
- Meeting place
- Social media handles
- Pictures
We want to be able to feature a different fan group every week this season. Maybe we can do it, maybe not...but only YOU can help decide the fate of this idea. Send your info to: barrelsportsblog@gmail.com
