Franck Ribery injured and did not travel to Athens

Bayern Munich’s veteran Frenchman has a vertebral blockage and was unable to travel with the squad.

Veteran winger Franck Ribery was injured in training on Sunday and was not included in the traveling roster for Bayern Munich. The Frenchman did not play on Saturday and reportedly injured his back during practice as described by the club’s twitter account. Specifically, Ribery is suffering a vertebral blockage per Bayern:

Bild is also alleging the Ribery was unhappy with being left on the bench on Saturday against Wolfsburg as well:

Franck Ribery (35) and Thomas Müller (29) sat in the 3-1 in Wolfsburg 90 minutes on the bench. Both were not happy about it. But the reactions could not be more different.

Ribéry was angry when he was warming up. After the 3:1 the Frenchman rushed wordlessly and with a stony expression from the stadium. Müller, however, turned, said the press: “The coach does not always need to justify everything. We have a very broad squad. The coach has set up and we must see that we also radiate the unity we want to be. That’s why there’s no reason to voice any negative voices.”
