Daily Schmankerl: Löw must go; Carlo Ancelotti honored with face on pizza; and MORE!

Is there really any light at the end of this tunnel?

Löw must go (Bavarian Football Works)

The headline writes itself, but it’s now officially time. As John N. Dillon so eloquently wrote last night, Joachim Löw is wasting Germany’s time and talent.

Simply put, Germany needs to make a change.

Enough time has been wasted waiting for Low to evolve or maybe even make common sense moves, but it’s not going to happen. I personally put the World Cup fiasco on Löw’s shoulders with the primary issue being his arrogance...and he still hasn’t learned as he still rolls out lineups that leave thousands of fans scratching their respective heads. Whatever magic touch Löw once had is now gone and the only people who can’t see it are the head honchos at the DFB (not exactly a group of people in touch with what ails the squad, nor a tour de force of public relations experts).

If the DFB’s goal was to become known as a global laughingstock then they are well on their way to achieve such a distinction. Thanks for the memories Jogi, but your time here is over. Onward and upward (hopefully).

Carlo Ancelotti honored with his face on a pizza (@Andy_Headspaeth)

This qualifies in the “something I didn’t even know I wanted, but now I need” category: A pizza with Carlo Ancelotti’s face on it:

Gibraltar bags first win in an official competition (@GibraltarFA)

Germany is not even the best country starting with a “G” any more . In all seriousness, though, it is a very cool experience for Gibraltar and a feat that it should be extremely proud of.

Per Mertesacker is honored (@dw_sports)

Per Mertesacker’s homecoming game was held at Hannover’s HDI Arena on Saturday and the veteran defender was given a tremendous round of applause:

A call for fan groups (BavarianFootballWorks.com)

We are trying something here at the Daily Schmankerl and need YOUR help. If you read my man Tommy Adams’ piece about his experience with the FCBNYC Fan Club (if you haven’t, SHAME ON YOU!), you could see how great the event was. So we want to highlight some of these wonderful groups that are out there globally and this is what we need from you:

  • Name of the group
  • Location
  • Year founded
  • Leadership (if you have people are kind of running the show)
  • Meeting place
  • Social media handles
  • Pictures

I’d LOVE to be able to feature a different fan group every week this season. Maybe we can do it, maybe not...but only YOU can help decide the fate of this idea. Send your info to: barrelsportsblog@gmail.com
