Daily Schmankerl: A call for Thomas Müller to man the 10; Toni Kroos not happy at Real Madrid; and MORE!

There is no Bundesliga, but there is a game for Germany. For Jogi Löw, every game matters these days.

If - when - Thomas Müller doesn’t line up centrally today, the sound you hear will be me slamming my head against the wall (Bavarian Football Works)

A brief editorial: It seems like Joachim Löw is making some changes. Maybe the arrogance of the past is finally submitting to the need for change. One thing...yes, only one thing would win me over today for Löw: Start Thomas Müller centrally at attacking mid and see what happens.

Based on recent performances for Bayern Munich, success may not be guaranteed, but why stifle one of your most creative and unselfish playmakers? If you are riding Timo Werner as the striker (which is also apparently no guarantee today either...see below), you might as well flank him with equally pacey forwards like Leroy Sané and Julian Brandt, along with a proven playmaker in Müller.

I think Germany needs it. I think Werner needs it. Let’s just hope Jogi sees it my way.

Toni Kroos is not so fond of his role at Real Madrid (LiveSoccerTV)

Just a friendly reminder that it’s not just Bayern Munich facing internal strife.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, the talented midfielder spoke about his role in Los Blancos’ mid-section. His straight answer when asked about how he feels playing in a defensive midfielder role left no doubt on where he wants to play for the Spanish giants.

”I am not Casemiro,” the footballer frankly replied.

”I can get used to play there but with someone beside me, just like we do for the National Team with (Joshua) Kimmich. That’s a system that could work for me in the future,” the footballer added.

Real Madrid’s boss has faced serious criticism from fans and experts due to his tactical changes, which have included fielding players away from their natural positions. We’ll have to wait and see if coach Lopetegui listens to the German footballer’s words.

Hoffenheim looking at RB Salzburg coach to replace Julian Nagelsmann (@dw_sports)

RB Salzburg coach Marco Rose is rumored to be a leading candidate to replace Julian Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim, who will be leaving to coach RB Leipzig.

Follow that? Okay.

Rose has actually done a terrific job with Salzburg and is seemingly the type of (relatively) young and fresh coach that could walk into Hoffenheim and continue to build on the foundation that Nagelsmann has laid.

This is a pretty cool moment.

A call for fan groups (BavarianFootballWorks.com)

We are trying something here at the Daily Schmankerl and need YOUR help. If you read my man Tommy Adams’ piece about his experience with the FCBNYC Fan Club (if you haven’t, SHAME ON YOU!), you could see how great the event was. So we want to highlight some of these wonderful groups that are out there globally and this is what we need from you:

  • Name of the group
  • Location
  • Year founded
  • Leadership (if you have people are kind of running the show)
  • Meeting place
  • Social media handles
  • Pictures

I’d LOVE to be able to feature a different fan group every week this season. Maybe we can do it, maybe not...but only YOU can help decide the fate of this idea. Send your info to: barrelsportsblog@gmail.com
