Netherlands rout Germany 3-0 in UEFA Nations League

The Netherlands weathered an early storm from Germany before running all over Jogi Low’s team. After the opening two matches of the UEFA Nations League, Germany have one point.

FULLTIME: NETHERLANDS 3-0 GERMANY

90’- 3-0. THE DUTCH HAVE SCORED AGAIN. Wijnaldum runs right through the German defense and blasts one past Neuer to make it 3-0. Wow.

90’- Depay gets played through again with only Boateng in the area, but he smashes his shot off of the crossbar.

87’- GOAL NETHERLANDS! Germany cough the ball up in midfield and a quick counter sends the Dutch through with ease. The only Germany player in the area is Boateng, and he’s unable to intercept the pass to Depay. While Neuer gets a boot to it, it’s not enough to keep the ball out of the back of the net.

82’- Germany have been spending a lot of time in the attacking third over the last 15 minutes, but they haven’t really challenged Cillessen yet. This is alarming. Time is ticking away. Fast.

67’- Brandt has come on for Uth.

66’- So, Germany isn’t completely out of this yet, but they need to be more careful as they push forward. They don’t need to leave too many holes behind them.

65’- Sane goes wide! Kimmich plays Sane in behind the Dutch backline with a beautiful pass, but Sane sends his shot wide of the goal. Poor shot.

57’- Look, there’s really just not a lot of positives for Germany so far. Sane and Draxler have come on for Muller and Can.

46’- Second half kickoff!

HALFTIME: NETHERLANDS 1-0 GERMANY

Wow, what a half that was. Germany started on top, but they were unable to do anything with the possession, and the Dutch made them pay for it. Shocking last 20 minutes for Germany.

44’- Dumfries crosses a perfect ball into Depay, and his header goes just wide of the post. Neuer was left with no chance on that one. Germany are lucky.

40’- The Netherlands has taken nearly full control of this match. Germany look all out of sorts without a lot of ideas.

32’- SLIDING SAVE BY GINTER! Oh boy. Germany are being ripped to shreds right now. After being played in behind Hector, Bergwijn hit a low hard cross past Hummels and Neuer with Babel lurking at the back post. Germany are bailed out by a last ditch sliding tackle from Ginter to knock the ball away from Babel to save an easy tap-in.

30’- GOAL NETHERLANDS! Babel smashes a header from a corner kick off of the crossbar, and Van Dijk is on hand to head it into the empty net. Replays are absolutely VICIOUS to Neuer. He came out of his goal to get the corner, decided not to at the last second, was nowhere near Babel’s header on the dive, and had no chance at stopping Van Dijk’s header.

The Bayern number one is having another shocker.

29’- Both teams have settled in now, and the game is more open. Unfortunately for Germany, Can has ended up with the ball in the attacking third.

18’- SAVE CILLESSEN! Kroos finds Müller in the penalty area, and his left footed blaster forces a great save out of the Dutch keeper.

15’- Germany break quickly, and Werner tries to go around Cillessen in the Dutch goal but knocks it out of play for a goal kick.

14’- We finally get some sustained possession from the Netherlands. They get a corner out of it, but they don’t even challenge Neuer.

9’- Germany almost get caught on the break, but Werner runs down Bergwijn and takes the ball from him.

5’- It’s all Germany so far in this one. Netherlands are sitting back and letting Germany have the ball. Not much to talk about yet.

Kickoff: And we’re off!
