Bayern Munich officially announced last week that Leon Goretzka would be joining the club this summer from Schalke. Unsurprisingly, Goretzka's decision has met with a great deal of criticism, especially from Schalke supporters. When he was subbed off last weekend during Schalke's 1-1 draw with Hannover 96, the majority of fans at the Veltins arena let the 22-year old know exactly how they felt about, seeing him off to the bench with deafening boos.

Despite the criticism, Goretzka has all the right tools to become an impact player at Bayern, having impressed with both Schalke and Die Mannschaft. Bayern center-back Niklas Süle is confident that his good friend will thrive with his new club. Speaking with OmniSport (via FourFourTwo), Sule tipped the midfielder to be a great success:
Leon has been very good friend for many years. I am incredibly happy that he is coming to FC Bayern. I think he is absolutely a leader and he can be that here, too. As you have already seen, when he played, he leads the way and I have to say, this is really a very good transfer and I am firmly convinced that he will prevail here.
Süle also admitted that he can understand the exasperated frustration shown by the Schalke fans, despite the fact that Goretzka is committed the club’s cause for the remainder of the season, as they attempt to qualify for the Champions League:
You can understand the displeasure of the fans from time to time, but then you should also consider that this is still a player of them until the summer – who was standing in the starting XI last game and it is not conducive to his performance, when he is booed by his own fans. As I said, that’s football. He has made a decision that, from my side, is absolutely understandable, because he also wants to take the next step, because he can also take the next step in terms of his quality.
In the meantime, Süle is 100% focused on helping his side reach treble-winning glory, and wants nothing more than to win the Champions League:
