After 17 years in the game, I have considered the next step in my career. I have decided to go into management.
The decision will come as no surprise to fans of the veteran Spanish midfielder, who was once described by Pep Guardiola as one of the best midfielders he’d seen in his life.
Alonso retired from football alongside Bayern captain Philipp Lahm at the end of the 2016-17 season. He retired having won titles in England, Spain, and Germany, including two Champions Leagues and a FIFA World Cup. As per ESPN FC, the 35 year old has been working toward his coaching badges this summer.
Maybe Alonso could manage Bayern Munich one day? He wouldn’t be the first former player to do so.
