Arjen Robben opened up his 2017/2018 scoring account Saturday in Bayern Munich's comprehensive 4-0 victory over Mainz. The Dutch international was just one of a handful of standout performers versus Mainz, but Robben made a point to stress the significance of having Thomas Müller in the squad.
Speaking after the game, Robben gave Müller plenty of justifiable praise, and effectively echoed how a large majority of Bayern fans feel about Müller (via Bundesliga.com):
When he’s on the pitch, I play better. With Thomas, you have much more movement; he is like a second striker who goes into gaps, tearing open spaces for team-mates. When he’s on the pitch I play better – I know that sounds funny and it has nothing to do with the others. Every player here has a lot of quality – just as Thomas does; he works very hard.
Is this a turning point for Müller’s play under Carlo Ancelotti?
