According to Sport Bild reporter Tobias Altschäffl, Bayern Munich defender Javi Martinez will be out much longer than expected with a calf injury. The Spaniard picked up an injury during Bayern’s penalty shootout win over Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup. Here’s the tweet:
Nach @SPORTBILD-Infos ist die Verletzung von Javi Martinez ernster als gedacht, Einsatz in Chemnitz sehr unwahrscheinlich @FCBayern

Translation:
According to Sport Bild information, Javi Martinez's injury is more serious than thought. It is very unlikely that he plays vs Chemnitz.
This comes as a blow to the Bavarians, who are also missing star defender Jerome Boateng to a muscular injury in the thigh. The injury leaves only Mats Hummels and Niklas Sule as the remaining fit center backs on the squad, who will embark on the first match of their DFB-Pokal campaign on Saturday.
According to kicker, Boateng, along with Thiago Alcantara (abdominal muscle injury), James Rodriguez (thigh muscle injury), and Juan Bernat (ankle injury) - all have yet to resume team training. On a more positive note, David Alaba has resumed individual training on the ball for the first time since a knock he picked up in Bayern’s Audi Cup game against Liverpool.
Finally, to round out the injury related news for this week, Arjen Robben has resumed team training. The Dutchman, who suffered a calf injury while playing tennis during his holiday, will reportedly be ready to play against Chemnitz on Saturday.
Update
Altschäffl has now also reported that Thiago will also rejoin the team later rather than sooner:
Auch die Verletzung von @Thiago6 ist schlimmer als gedacht. Gegen Chemnitz fehlt er, zum Bundesliga-Auftakt wird es eng @SPORTBILD @FCBayern
— Tobias Altschäffl (@altobelli13) August 9, 2017
Thiago's injury is also worse than thought. He will be out vs Chemnitz; it'll be close for the the Bundesliga opener.
