Now there’s a name Bayern fans haven’t heard in a long time. Diego Contento was a young but promising left back that came that came through the ranks at Bayern Munich’s youth academy. While the lad was generally dependable when called upon, he had the bad luck to be sitting behind David Alaba, arguably the best left back in the world at the time.
Eventually, his tenure with the record champions’ ended with a move to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux. The player went for a transfer fee of about €1m at the time, but he had a clause in his contract which stipulated that Bayern would receive 50% of any future transfer see. Well, the future is now here.
According to L’Equipe, the former Bayern man is ready to return to the Bundesliga. Hamburg are said to be the interested party, with a transfer fee of €5m on the table. If the deal goes through, Bayern might find itself €2.5m richer. Maybe not too much money in a transfer market that has gone bananas, but it’s still a tidy sum for a players that Bayern does not even own anymore.
