Bayern Munich received a huge boost on Tuesday as Spanish midfield maestro Thiago Alcantara finally returned to team training. The former Barcelona midfielder was sidelined by an abdominal muscle injury in a preseason game against Liverpool. After at least one setback in his recovery, the Spaniard is finally fit to train with the team.
Astonishingly (or unsurprisingly, if you’re a hardened Bayern fan) this is Thiago’s second comeback from injury since the preseason began. The club’s Instagram account announced his return with a cheery photo:
If Thiago can stay fit, then coach Carlo Ancelotti might have headache figuring out who to start in Bayern’s midfield. With new signings Sebastian Rudy and Corentin Tolisso already tearing it up, and with the ever-reliable Arturo Vidal available as well, the Spaniard may not find it an easy path back into the lineup.
