This summer has not been great when it has come to the health and fitness of Bayern Munich players, and Tuesday’s loss to Liverpool in the Audi Cup left Bayern with even more injury issues. Bayern made it official Wednesday that midfielders Thiago Alcantara and James Rodriguez both suffered muscle injuries and will be unavailable for the DFL-Supercup against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

James suffered a muscle injury in his thigh and will miss a few weeks. Thiago’s abdominal injury does not appear to be as severe, and as of now, he is only expected to miss the Supercup. David Alaba, who was also forced to come off against Liverpool, received treatment and will train by himself on Thursday.

On a brighter note, the Abendzeitung reported Wednesday that Jerome Boateng and Arjen Robben are hoping to be available for the Supercup. Manuel Neuer, meanwhile, is still a few weeks away from full fitness.
