Douglas Costa: This is why I failed at Bayern Munich

The Brazilian recalls a difficult second season with the German champions.

Newly minted Juventus winger Douglas Costa had some words to say about his former employers Bayern Munich. Speaking to SportBild, the Brazilian winger shed some light on the difficulties he faced in his second season with the German champions. Here’s what he had to say:

I think Ancelotti didn't have much time to see me play. Because of the games with the [Brazilian] national team and of injuries, I wasn't able to prepare for the new season with him like I had done with Guardiola.

Costa, who came to Bayern in the summer of 2015, impressed heavily upon arrival- notching up an impressive total of 7 goals and 18 assists in his first season. His second season was far less successful - with coach Carlo Ancelotti preferring the services of a fit and firing duo of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. Now on loan to Italian champions Juventus, Costa had this to say about his new club:

Juve, like Bayern, is a magnificent team, and every player will do his best. In Italy, everyone plays a perfect kind of soccer from a tactical point of view. It's difficult to beat the defense.

With the current stature of these two clubs, it is likely that they will meet sometime in Europe next season. The last time they met, Costa’s assist to Robert Lewandowski catalyzed a Bayern comeback that led to Juve’s early exit from the tournament. Will Bayern come to regret the departure of their speedy Brazilian winger?
