According to a report from SportBild, the agent of Borussia Dortmund's young star Ousmane Dembélé “offered” his client’s services to both Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona. Both clubs declined.
How exactly Bayern might have taken up this purported offer is not clear. Dortmund have reiterated again and again that Dembélé is not for sale. Dortmund’s manager Michael Zorc has stated,
He is playing for us next season. There have not been any talks and there will not be any.
It thus seems that Dembélé’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, had hoped one of the clubs might make a bid to pry the star free, despite Dortmund’s protestations to the contrary. Both Bayern and Barcelona were reportedly surprised to be courted so aggressively.
As matters stand, the maneuver behind the scenes amounts to little more than the usual summer transfer noise - but it at least attests to Dembélé’s hypothetical interest in playing for Bayern in the future, and that indeed is an interesting prospect.
Dembélé is under contract with Dortmund until 2021. Some outlets have questioned his commitment to stay at Dortmund after he openly expressed his disappointment with the club’s decision to fire Tuchel. For now, though, the matter is out of his hands.
