Defender Juan Bernat had successful ankle surgery Monday in Munich and could miss three months according to a media report.

Bernat was subbed out of Bayern Munich's International Champions Cup game against AC Milan last Saturday in the 31st minute after injuring himself in a duel. Bernat immediately traveled back to Munich after the match. After returning to Munich for further examination, the initial diagnosis of a tear to the syndesmosis ligament in the left ankle was confirmed, according to a club statement.

Though he did not specifically mention injuries, Bayern President Uli Hoeness openly questioned whether preseason games in China and Singapore this summer have been worth it for the club.
