Robert Lewandowski may have lost the coveted Torjägerkanone to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by a single goal on the last matchday, but his peers in the Bundesliga put the Polish striker well ahead of his rival at BVB, choosing Bayern Munich's unstoppable striker as the best player in the Bundesliga for the 2016/17 season.
For this year's iteration of its biannual survey, kicker asked 248 Bundesliga players to choose whom they considered the best Bundesliga player of 2016/17, among other questions. At the winter break, last year's winner, Aubameyang, led the pack. By year's end, though, Auba finished only third, behind Leipzig's dynamic Naby Keita.
The distinction for Lewandowski is particularly notable for the fact that he received a whopping 25 percent of the vote. That recognition is due in no small part to the incredible versatility Lewandowski showed all season. Besides his 30 goals, he also recorded 8 assists, making him far and away the best scorer in the Bundesliga.
