As originally reported in May, Holger Badstuber will move on from Bayern Munich and his loan employers Schalke 04 when his current contract expires on June 30.
Badstuber has spent the past 15 years under contract at Bayern.
Interest from Manchester City in Badstuber was reported on Jan. 1, the first day he became available to sign on a free transfer.
It is now being reported by ESPN that Badstuber is seeking new challenges outside of the Bundesliga when he leaves Bayern Munich at the end of the month.
"My attitude and my development have come to a stage where I want to open a new chapter, tick off the past few years and look ahead. I am convinced something very good is waiting for me," Badstuber said. He goes on by stating that he would love to "develop in another country, maybe learn a new language" and says that still has "a few year at top level" in him.
Badstuber has made 177 appearances for Bayern and won 13 trophies.
