Bayern Munich have announced the signing of midfielder Corentin Tolisso from French Ligue 1 side Lyon for a reported Bundesliga-record transfer fee of €41.5 million. The 22-year-old Tolisso inked a five-year deal with the Bundesliga champions until 2022 after undergoing his medical examination on Wednesday in Munich.
Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Tolisso’s signing:
We’re really pleased we’ve been able to sign such a young and interesting player ahead of stiff competition from abroad. Corentin Tolisso was Carlo Ancelotti’s wish for our midfield.
Tolisso on signing with Bayern Munich:
I had a wonderful time at Lyon, and I’m very thankful for that. Now I’m really pleased to be at one of the best clubs in Europe. I have great aims for my time at FC Bayern. Today is a great day for me.
Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham and Juventus or Manchester City were also thought to covet Tolisso, who scored 14 goals in 47 games across all competitions for Lyon last season. Tolisso is also a French U21 international player.
The last time that Bayern Munich and Lyon did business together was when Bayern legend Giovane Élber joined the French club in 2003.
