Jerome Boateng was forced out of Bayern Munich’s match with Freiburg after picking up an early injury. It would appear to the naked eye that Boateng suffered a groin strain after jostling with Florian Niederlechner for the ball. He had to be helped off the field by two of Bayern’s training staff.
With neither Javi Martinez nor Mats Hummels in the squad for the day’s match, Carlo Ancelotti was forced to bring on Joshua Kimmich to partner with David Alaba at centerback. It certainly wasn’t an ideal situation for anyone.
This has been a season to forget for many Bayern players with Boateng near the top of that list. The defender has spent the majority of the season recovering from injuries rather than actually on the field playing. It has been a huge disappoint for Boateng, who’s been unable to follow up his season last year when he was spectacular.
