Bayern Munich will host Freiburg at the Allianz Arena in the final game of the 2016-17 Bundesliga season. It’s the final match in the careers of Philipp Lahm, Xabi Alonso, and Tom Starke. On the field, Bayern will celebrate their record fifth straight Bundesliga championship with a beer bash once the match is finished.
Of course, the goal is go out there and win the match. Freiburg will be fighting with everything they have in this one, because a spot in next season’s Europa League is on the line for them. A failure to gain at least a point could have a devastating impact on their season finish.
Still, all eyes will be on the three players saying goodbye on the day. Lahm, Alonso, and Starke have served Bayern with the utmost honor in their time in Munich, and we celebrate them.
Remember: Don’t mourn this moment. Celebrate the fact that we were able to regularly see these legends of the game do their thing.
It’s Bayern time.
