Following on yesterday’s rumors of his imminent departure and the club’s vehement denial, Joshua Kimmich has declared his intention to stay at Bayern Munich, but his careful wording suggests the real extent of his discontent.

Kimmich’s statement fell well short of a declaration of love for his club:

It is a fact that I would not like to leave Bayern Munich.

It is also a fact that Kimmich is highly dissatisfied with his existence on the bench under coach Carlo Ancelotti. Kimmich’s conditional loyalty to Bayern Munich emerges even more clearly from his follow-up statement:

It is not only conceivable (vorstellbar) but also my goal to stay at Bayern Munich - on the condition that I play.

This statement seems to respond to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s repeated assertion that Kimmich will play a key role as successor to Philipp Lahm. Rummenigge stated at an event,

He is under contract until 2020. I can imagine (vorstellen) that that is not the end of the story. We are completely convinced by him, including the coach. He should be Philipp Lahm’s successor. He has our confidence.

Thus, while Kimmich will not leave Bayern Munich this summer as reported by the Stuttgarter Nachrichten, it seems plausible that the the threat of a transfer request was indeed on the table.
