Mats Hummels had to be carted off the training field on Sunday morning following an injury to his ankle. While the extent of the injury isn’t known at this time, Hummels did tell Bild, “I definitely won't be available for Wednesday.”
It was expected that Carlo Ancelotti was going to start Hummels and Javi Martinez on Wednesday against Real Madrid. However, this injury does throw a wrench, albeit a minor one, into Ancelotti’s plans.
Luckily, Bayern have three world class centerbacks. Jerome Boateng will certainly partner Martinez in the center of Bayern’s defense against Madrid. While the Hummels and Martinez partnership has been spectacular this season in Boateng’s absence due to injury, the defense isn’t expected to miss a beat in a Boateng and Martinez partnership.
This came on a day in which Thomas Müller returned to full Bayern Munich training for the first time since his injury. Manuel Neuer, however, was not part of training. Both players are expected to play against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Hopefully, Hummels’ injury won’t be a long term problem.
