During the 2006-07 UEFA Champions League, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid met in a Round of 16 match. After a high scoring 2-3 loss in the first leg in Madrid, Bayern returned to the Allianz Arena knowing that they were in good shape.
Little did they know that they would start the match in Munich with a new Champions League record.
Madrid kicked the ball off and sent the ball back to fullback Roberto Carlos, as one does. Carlos fumbled the pass at his feet, and it was intercepted by Hasan Salihamidžić. Brazzo drove deep in Madrid’s defensive third before passing the ball toward the top of the penalty area.
The ball was picked up Roy Makaay with nobody but the goalkeeper to beat. Makaay doesn’t miss. The ball hits the back of the net. Bayern take the 1-0 lead. From kickoff to goal, only 10.12 seconds came off the clock. It was the fastest goal in the history of the Champions League.
Relive that historic moment.
