Bayern Munich are working to extend the contract of Thiago Alcantara, according to a report from Kicker. The club would like to extend him until the summer of 2021. His current deal is set to expire in 2019.
At the time of his previous extension, it was believed that Thiago was given a pay raise to around €9 million per season. Any extension should see another raise and probably a significant one.
However, Bayern must juggle the fact that this is the first season in which Thiago has been healthy and not missing huge chunks of the season. Any extension and raise must keep that fact in mind.
The always not-reliable Transfermarkt has increased Thiago’s “value” by €10 million to a total of €40 million. Of course, any potential transfer of Thiago would fetch far more than that.
As expected, Thiago has been the subject of transfer rumors to rejoin Barcelona, but he has spoken numerous times about his intent to remain in Munich.
