UPDATE: According to Carlo Ancelotti, David Alaba has suffered a strained knee and is questionable for Wednesday’s DFB Pokal Semifinal against Borussia Dortmund.

David Alaba was forced out of Bayern Munich’s match with Mainz on Saturday with an injury. The defender was on the sideline getting treatment on what appeared to be his left thigh, before a substitute was requested. Joshua Kimmich would replace Alaba.

Before the match, in projecting lineups, BFW’s very own Ryan Cowper chose to start Felix Götze over David Alaba at centerback for this match due to the simple fact that “Alaba needs a break”.

And, quite frankly, that was very true. Since returning from the winter break, Alaba has played 90 minutes in every single Bayern match except four. Those four include: one did not play, one 76 minute appearance, one 74 minute appearance, and one 14 minute appearance. Otherwise, that’s fourteen full 90 minute matches and one 120 minute match.

Let’s hope that this injury isn’t too serious, and Alaba isn’t set to miss any significant time.
