Bayern Munich return on Saturday for a Bundesliga match against Mainz at the illustrious Allianz Arena. Following Tuesday’s elimination in the UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti will be balancing some rest along with seeking a win to maintain the lead in the league.
Rotation better happen in this match. In four days, Bayern will host Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Pokal Semifinals. While a win against Mainz isn’t 100% necessary, losing to Dortmund in the Pokal will be a devastating blow to a club that was planning another triple just two weeks ago.
We know that Javi Martinez and Jerome Boateng won’t be playing in this one, and everyone must be hopeful that Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman get the start. Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery need some rest, finally.
The center of midfield could be anyone’s game. It always depends on the formation that Ancelotti plays, and whether or not he trusts Renato Sanches or Joshua Kimmich to give them some much needed minutes in the center of the park.
It’s Bayern time.
