As if Bayern Munich’s defense wasn’t struggling before, they were dealt another blow on Friday.
In his pre-game press conference on Friday, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Jerome Boateng will not travel to Leverkusen for Bayern’s next Bundesliga game due to a groin injury.
Mats Hummels, who missed Wednesday’s champions league game with a foot injury, is also not expected to rejoin the team until Sunday, also making him unavailable for the game this weekend. He trained in water on Thursday, which he was to do again on Friday before training again on Saturday and Sunday.
“Without Hummels and Boateng, Alaba will play at center back and Bernat as a left back,” Ancelotti said.
Nicolas Feldhahn will also be brought up from the reserve team to give Bayern depth from the bench. Feldhahn, who joined the reserve team from VfL Osnabrück before the 2015-16 season, played with Bayern first team in the preseason and has made 25 appearances for the reserve team this season.
Ancelotti also shared that Robert Lewandowski trained individually Friday after missing Wednesday’s game with a shoulder injury. The Bayern coach “has a good feeling” that both Lewandowski will be available for the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal in Madrid next week.
