Mats Hummels is already working on his comeback after injuring his ankle in training after the big win over Borussia Dortmund. He will definitely miss Wednesday’s match against Real Madrid and the weekend match against Bayer Leverkusen, but there remains the outside chance that he could return next week for the Champions League return leg in Madrid.

He posted the following picture on his Instagram of him wearing an air or water cast that’s designed to encourage blood flow to the affected area. In Hummels’ case, the hope is that this keeps some of the swelling of his ankle down.

Speculation in the German media is that he could be out of action as much as three weeks. With Bayern going no further than “a spell” in their official statement, it remains to be seen just how long he will be out.

Get well soon, Mats.
