Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller return ahead of Champions League visit from Real Madrid

After missing the last weeks matches, Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller returned to Bayern Munich team training on Monday. Their returns leave Bayern with an entirely healthy squad with the notable exception of Mats Hummels who pulled up with an injury on Sunday.

Neuer underwent foot surgery two weeks ago following a training injury. His deputy Sven Ulreich has filled in well in his absence, but let’s be honest there is no one capable of replacing what Neuer brings to the table for Bayern.

Thomas Müller suffered an ankle injury early last week that caused him to miss matches against Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund, but his return will be sorely needed. Arjen Robben went 90 minutes in Bayern’s 4-1 win over Dortmund while Franck Ribery played 75 minutes before being substituted. With Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman healthy as well, Müller’s return gives Carlo Ancelotti all the attacking weapons he needs to take on the Real Madrid backline.

Robert Lewandowski missed team training with a bruised shoulder he suffered on Saturday. He sustained the injury after being tripped up in the box by Roman Burki en route to earning a penalty and Bayern’s third goal of the match. His availability against Real Madrid is not in question at this time.
