Borussia Mönchengladbach and Max Eberl have announced a new contract for the sporting director that will keep him running the show at Borussia Park through 2022. "There has been a lot of speculation about me in recent months. Throughout that time I was always open with Borussia,” Eberl said.

This obviously means that Eberl will not be taking the vacant Sporting Director position at Bayern Munich, and the question must be asked: Is Uli Hoeneß to blame?

Philipp Lahm recently said that he wasn’t interested in the sporting director position, because Hoeneß would still be the one making the decisions at the end of the day. Many in the Germany media framed the decision as “Lahm doesn’t want to become another (Christian) Nerlinger”.

For now, it remains to be seen if Bayern will continue to pursue someone to fill that Sporting Director role, or if it will remain vacant with Hoeneß back in power.
