It does not look good for Bayern’s creative maestro.

Thiago suffers a serious injury

Shortly before halftime in Bayern Munich’s match against Anderlecht Thiago Alcantara remained down on the pitch after a duel with Anderlecht’s Sven Kums and immediately motioned for a substitution. He was replaced by James in the 44’ minute.

The prognosis for Thiago looks bleak. Speaking after the game, head coach Jupp Heynckes told the press, “Thiago very probably has a serious muscle injury in his thigh.”

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić told Sky, “He’ll be out for a long time, maybe months.”

Thiago left the stadium on crutches before the game’s end. The club will presumably release an official diagnosis in the coming days. Newly reappointed team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt was on the scene in Brussels.

Robben at least back sooner rather than later

There is at least a little hope for Bayern's other loss to injury, Arjen Robben. Robben went down clutching his hamstring after a hard tackle by Uros Spajic in the 47'.

After the game, Heynckes stated that “Arjen Robben thinks that it isn't so bad.” The Hollander may have a slight muscle injury. Heynckes added, “At the moment, we can't afford any more injuries; the cover is getting thinner and thinner.”

Update: Bayern Munich has officially confirmed both injuries in a brief press release.
