Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt officially returns as Bayern Munich's team doctor

No surprises here.

Effective immediately, the legendary Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt is officially Bayern Munich's team doctor yet again. According to Bild (via TZ), Bayern have brought back Müller-Wohlfahrt for a third stint with the team.

Müller-Wohlfahrt had abruptly broken with the club in 2015 after a heated dispute with then coach Pep Guardiola. He has left Bayern once before, in 2008, after differences with Jürgen Klinsmann. He was brought back along with Jupp Heynckes after Klinsmann was fired in 2009. Fast forward to 2017: with the dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti and the return of Heynckes, Müller-Wohlfahrt is the last piece of the puzzle to fall into place.

Club president Uli Hoeness, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Müller-Wohlfahrt himself are reportedly devising a “concept for the medical division that will succeed for the future.”

Müller-Wohlfahrt will serve as the head and coordinator of Bayern's medical staff. Müller-Wohlfahrt's partners in his private medical practice, Dr. Peter Ueblacker, Dr. Lutz Hänsel, and Dr. Jochen Hahne, will rotate on the bench for Bayern's training sessions and most ordinary games. All three are orthopedic surgeons.

Müller-Wohlfahrt himself will sit on the bench at Bayern's big games, such as Bayern's upcoming Champions League rematch with Paris Sainte-Germain. Müller-Wohlfahrt's official reinstatement will no doubt also simplify matters for those members of the team - for example, Jerome Boateng and Arjen Robben - who have continued to consult him all along since 2015.
