After the abrupt firing of Carlo Ancelotti last week it was widely reported that the manager had made enemies of many of his important players. Even after surprisingly being left on the bench for the manager’s final match in charge against PSG it appears that Mats Hummels wants nothing to do with any of these claims by refuting suggestions that he was the ‘kingslayer’ who wanted Ancelotti out.
Said Hummels, “To be termed a ‘king slayer’ is out of order. I do not know the origins of this information or if it was written because I did not play. I don't like it, I simply wouldn't do this.”
Even though he denied any involvement of the dismissal, Hummels was still not exuberant in his praise for the now former manager telling Sport Bild when asked if the removal of Ancelotti was a surprise? Instead he responded with a curt: “If it was quick or not that is the question.”
When pressed further regarding the possibility of Thomas Tuchel becoming the next manager of Bayern, a man who it has been rumored that Hummels did not get along with and submitted a transfer request under his stewardship, he quickly clammed up stating, “I’m not commenting on anything.”
