All it took was 60 minutes for Javi Martinez to take an unfortunate knock to the shoulder forcing him to ask for an early substitution Saturday against SC Freiburg. It was the same shoulder he injured while hiking this offseason. Though there is no official word yet as to the severity of the injury, Javi was visibly grimacing in pain and had to hold the injured area the entire walk back to the training room.
What makes this even more unfortunate for the oft-injured, 29-year-old Spaniard was that it came in the during one of his strongest performances of the season in a triumphant return to defensive midfielder. Martinez himself tweeted that he will not be out too long.
It won't be a long pause, just some days to be back... anyways very happy for the victory and proud of my teammates! pic.twitter.com/tbEbF1q3og— Javi Martínez (@Javi8martinez) October 14, 2017
UPDATE: Javi Martinez has been ruled out of the upcoming match against Celtic FC
