The day many Bayern Munich fans hoped would never come is almost here. Holger Badstuber is likely leaving the club that he has called home since the age of 13. And for a player with the pedigree and skill of Holger Badstuber there are likely not going to be a shortage of potential suitors. The only question remaining is the pesky injury one that derailed his career.
Speaking at Bayern’s winter training camp, Badstuber iterated that his ultimate concern was playing time while his agent has been public about his intent to find a loan destination for Badstuber. Carlo Ancelotti has supported the loan move as well. The 27-year-old centerback has not appeared for Bayern since their 3-2 loss to FC Rostov in the Champions League which came on the heels of his (unintelligibly muttered number) return from severe injury in the last four years.
There is no shortage of potential destinations for Badstuber. FC Köln are reportedly the most recent suitor to line up following Mergim Mavraj’s departure, while VfB Stuttgart and Manchester City also have been bandied about as possible destinations. Hamburger SV were also confirmed to have inquired on Badstuber, but ultimately nothing came of their interest.
The final question for any move including Holger Badstuber is who can tolerate another potential injury and who can guarantee the centerback the playing time he seeks?
