Lucas Scholl: not as good as his dad

Lucas Scholl’s Bayern Munich career is over for now. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has moved to Wacker Nordhausen, a 4th division club in the Regionalliga Nordost.

For Scholl, this is an opportunity to finally find his footing after several disappointing seasons. Scholl spent time with the Bayern Munich senior team in the 2014/2015 season as Pep Guardiola used him as a depth option, appearing twice on the bench as a 17-year-old. Scholl was an important part of the Bayern Munich youth setup but never appeared at any youth level for country.

His transition to the Bayern Munich reserve team did not go well, as he appeared just 16 times in 2015/2016, scoring just a single goal in nearly 800 minutes of play. Things got poorer this season for Scholl. he appeared only a handful of times over the summer, logging just 60 minutes, and has not featured in a match since early September.

It’s a disappointing end for a player who Pep Guardiola spent a great deal of time involving in senior training sessions two years ago. Much like Gianluca Gaudino, the other U18 debutant that season, it seems Scholl couldn’t elevate his play outside the confines of the control Guardiola’s system instilled.
