When Medhi Benatia’s loan with Juventus expires at the end of the current season, it’s very unlikely that he’ll return to Bayern Munich. If Juventus choose not to exercise their option to purchase Benatia at the conclusion of the loan, Bayern will seek to terminate Benatia’s contract, according to Kicker.
Benatia is under contract with Bayern through the summer of 2019. With Niklas Süle joining Bayern this summer from Hoffenheim, there’s really no need for Benatia on the roster past this summer.
Joining Bayern from Roma in August of 2014, Benatia entered Germany to high acclaim after a few stellar seasons in Italy. However, he could never get a consistent run of games under his belt due to various injuries that continuously sidelined him. Eventually, he fell completely out of favor with Pep Guardiola, as he preferred Joshua Kimmich at centerback in Benatia’s final months in Munich.
What does the future hold for Benatia? There is possibility that Juventus choose not to pull the trigger on the signing and look elsewhere. They could also just try to sign him as a free agent if Bayern let him walk.
