The Bundesliga is back!

It feels like six years have passed since Bayern Munich last took the field, but that all comes to an end on Friday. Bayern travel to Freiburg to finally close the Bundesliga’s Hinrunde - in case you missed it, the league was forced to start late due to players being involved in the Summer Olympics in Rio, and, for the first time in the Bundesliga’s history, the Herbstmeister (Fall champions) will be decided after the winter break.

Carlo Ancelotti knows his centerback pairing heading into the match. Mats Hummels and Javi Martinez will be starting. With Jerome Boateng sidelined due to an injury and Holger Badstuber loaned to Schalke, the only centerback pairing remaining are Hummels and Martinez.

The big question is in the midfield. It’s likely that Thomas Müller will be pushed up into the attack, leaving two spots in the midfield. We know that Thiago Alcantara is definitely out, while Arturo Vidal hasn’t been training this week due to injuries. Who will get the call in the Bundesliga restart: Xabi Alonso, Joshua Kimmich, or Renato Sanches?

We asked three of our writers to predict what lineup Ancelotti will play against Freiburg.
