Holger Badstuber is the on the verge of joining Schalke on a six month loan, according to Bild. They report that Badstuber and Schalke have already agreed to terms, and the only thing remaining is for the two clubs to reach and agreement.

Schalke aren’t requesting an “option to purchase” clause attached to the end of the deal. They are pushing for the deal due to the injury problems facing their centerbacks like Matija Nastasic and Benedikt Höwedes.

However, any loan deal hinges on Bayern signing Badstuber to an extension of some sort. Badstuber’s current contract expires at the end of this season. For Bayern to loan him to Schalke, they would look to sign him through the summer of 2018.

Where does that leave Bayern?

With Jerome Boateng still being out due to his injury, Carlo Ancelotti will turn to Mats Hummels and Javi Martinez in the center of defense with David Alaba and Joshua Kimmich as the backups.
