Some of the final dominoes on the injury front are about to fall for Bayern Munich. While the team is still hampered by a few injuries to key players, they’re about to get an influx of young talent just in time for the Matchday 2 and the earnest resumption of the Bundesliga.
Douglas Costa resumed team training with a short appearance on Monday before getting a heavier dose on Wednesday. Renato Sanches also appeared in team training on Wednesday, just days after having to pass on a call-up for World Cup 2018 qualifying for Portugal.
Kingsley Coman also started individual training just two weeks after his injury. Hopefully this puts him on track to make a return sometime around the start of the Champions League and the start of Bayern’s fixture congestion.
The looking returns of Costa, Sanches, and Coman gives Bayern Munich just three major outstanding injury uncertainties in Jerome Boateng, Holger Badstuber, and Arjen Robben. While Holger Badstuber is basically at the point where anything Bayern can get with him is bonus, Boateng’s continued absence could be a red flag given we’re three weeks out from the start of the Champions League group stage. Arjen Robben’s return is more suspect as he’s been in individual training since mid-August and still hasn’t resumed team training.
