Bayern Munich have announced that Uli Hoeneß is again a candidate for the post of FC Bayern Munich eV president. Karl Hopfner succeeded Hoeneß as president of Bayern back in 2014 after Hoeneß stepped down from the post after being sentenced in prison for tax evasion.

In February, Hoeneß was released from prison after serving 21 months. Hopfner will not stand for elections after he and Hoeneß mutually agreed after friendly talks.

Here’s the official statement from Bayern Munich:

Uli Hoeneß is to stand as a candidate for the post of FC Bayern München eV president. Scheduled elections for the club president and committee will be held at the next FC Bayern München eV Annual General Meeting in November 2016 among members who are present and eligible to vote.

Karl Hopfner will no longer stand for election as president or for the committee. This has been mutually agreed by Karl Hopfner and Uli Hoeneß in very amicable talks.

The return of Hoeneß has been long expected and his presence back with the club in an official capacity should be a jolt to the system to reenergize everyone. Since returning to the club, Hoeneß has made it his goal to help the club build upon their great youth department to make it one of the best in the entire world. Hoeneß showed his commitment to Bayern's youth by being on hand with Christian Früchtl signed his first professional contract with the club.

Hoeneß being back with the club is nothing but good news.
