Bayern Munich have announced that Renato Sanches will miss the next 3-4 weeks due to a thigh injury. The injury is said to be a lingering issue from Portugal’s Euro 2016 Final victory over France.

Sanches was instrumental in Portugal’s ascent to the top of European football this summer, with a remarkable tournament after not being expected to contribute that much. However, if Bayern have depth at any position, it’s central midfield.

Xabi Alonso, Thiago Alcantara, Arturo Vidal, Joshua Kimmich, and Javi Martinez are able to slot right in to replace him. Philipp Lahm and David Alaba are also able to slide into the central midfield and produce world class performances.

All of this, of course, is if Carlo Ancelotti had any plans in starting the 18 year old at all. While Sanches will be a big contributor to Bayern this season, it’s not yet known what Ancelotti prefers from this Bayern side. The DFL Supercup against Borussia Dortmund will be the first game that the first team will be together.
